Ee...Ears and Sense of Hearing
The energy was electric in the Junior Kindergarten building last week! The children enthusiastically used their ears to listen for all sorts of sounds. We started off with a BANG on Monday with a rain, wind, thunder and lightning show. Mother Nature surely gave us a lot to listen to. The rain came down in soft, quiet rhythms at first. Yet, as the rain poured harder the rhythm was faster and the sound got louder. The children were intrigued. We decided to stand on our new porch and just listen to the rain. One child began clapping along to the rhythm....where was my camera when I needed it??? Soon the whole class was clapping along...and wouldn't you know, it got faster and louder! So, the clapping grew faster and louder. Soon there was laughter mixed in! It might have been raining, but the Sunny Sea Friends made it a bright and happy day.

Let's get the rhythm of the hands! Work those fine motor muscles to roll dough into lines for letters. The children reinforce the learning of letter shapes L, F, and E. |

Time to print! Let's make an E! Always start our letters at the top! Big line down....frog jump back to the top....little line over.....frog jump to the middle.....little line over......frog jump to the bottom.....little line over!
Listening to and enjoying music is a wonderful way to celebrate the sense of hearing. The family projects of creating original musical instruments from recyclables turned out to be a great cause for celebration. The children were so eager to share and play their instruments for and with one another. They tapped, strummed, picked, bonged, and blew their way into making beautiful sounds of music. Thank you for helping to make such a senseriffic day of fun!
All About Me And My Body!
As the children learn about themselves and their five senses, they are also learning to name their basic body parts. We enjoy incorporating Spanish into our daily routine as well. The children have been learning to sing and say their basic body parts in both English and Spanish. Here they are singing the popular song "Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes".
Head....cabeza
shoulders......hombros
knees.....rodillas
toes......dedos
eyes......ojos
ears......orejas
mouth.......boca
nose.....nariz

So much fun in learning!
Last week, the children continued to tenderly take care of their vegetable garden. It is thriving! On Friday, after studying, touching, smelling and tasting the herbs, they planted them in the garden as well.
The inspiring garden art with the sayings Live, Laugh and Love were thoughtfully donated to us by Tre and his family. Thank you!
This week the children will focus on the letter Hh and their senses of smell and taste. We have a lot of senseriffic activities planned! Join us one day if you can!
Other fun activities from last week.....
 |
painting on tin foil with a mixture of paint and dish soap |
 |
experimenting with shaving cream, sand, and natural objects |
 |
using various objects for painting with texture
Just LISTEN to the fun of dancing on bubble wrap!

Every week, the children experience so many different things in their learning stations, outside, during Circle Time, at lunch, EVERYWHERE! I wish it was possible to include them all in the blog. Still, the blog is a great tool for starting conversations. Share it with your child and encourage him/her to tell you more. Happy reading!
Have a wonderful week!
