Fallish Fun!

We love the PET SHOW!!!

There was a lot of excitement last week.  We celebrated a birthday, enjoyed Parent/Teacher conferences,  opened a "veterinary clinic" in the Exploratorium and had a purr-fectly pleasant
Pet Show!

Sweet, furry friends big and small, live or filled with stuffing, cherished and loved were presented to a happy crowd of onlookers last Friday. The smiles on the children's faces and the enthusiastic way in which they spoke into the microphone to share stories about their pets made the morning a truly memorable occasion.

The pet show was the purr-fect ending to a week full of paws-atively pet-happy learning.  The children worked all week on skills that were theme-based around pets.  There were pet lacing cards, pet sticker story starters, a "veterinary clinic", sorting activities, pet picture word cards for reading and printing, transferring activities, pet-related Spanish games, pet treats to bake for our SPCA friends and so much more.

As well as enjoying pet-themed projects the children focussed on the letter Tt last week.  They learned to recognize, make the sound and sign of, and print terrific Tt. Songs, poems, etc. enhanced that learning.

Fabulous Fall has finally arrived, although the heat would tell us a different story. The children celebrated with seasonal activities such as leaf rubbings, beginning a classroom pumpkin patch bulletin board (displaying the lifecycle of a pumpkin from seed to pie), fall/nature sorting, counting and patterning centers in math as well as a brand new calendar.  There is so much more to come as we begin studying pumpkins, gourds, apples and other fun fallish things.

This week the children will also focus on the letter Ii.

Because all life-long learners take in information in their own unique ways and pace, teachers differentiate the instruction.  Learning centers that are designed with multiple ways of achieving the same goal in order to appeal to different learning styles allow children to grow and learn at their own pace.  Our centers both ease the children into new learning skills and expand upon a child's knowledge once those skills have been mastered.

Have a happy week.
